| David Lee Certified Structural Integration Practitioner
He graduated from the Guild for Structural Integration (GSI), USA, which is dedicated to the original teachings of Dr Ida P Rolf, whose work is now more commonly called Rolfing®. David is a member of the GSI and the International Association of Structural Integrators. At the GSI, David studied with Peter Melchoir, who was one of the early students – and the most senior instructor – of Dr Rolf. Peter (below, right) began studying with Dr Rolf in 1965 and, in 1971, taught his first class in Structural Integration – the name originally used by Dr Rolf to refer to her work – at the request of Dr Rolf. In 1988, Peter was among a group of senior instructors at the Rolf Institute who formed the GSI as a separate body to preserve the authenticity of Dr Rolf's original teachings.
David treasures that opportunity because Peter Melchoir has since passed away. David has been interested in therapeutic bodywork ever since he was a teenager. A friend introduced him to Chinese therapeutic massage, and he was fascinated. Incidentally, therapeutic massage is one of the three pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with herbal medicine and acupuncture. He undertook intensive training and gained certification in a broad range of modalities, including Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Technique and Muscle Energy Technique. Prior to his training in Structural Integration, David worked with a group of healthcare professionals in Singapore dealing with pain management. He utilizes the techniques he learnt to achieve good results. The training to become a certified Structural Integration practitioner has given David a better understanding of the working relationship among the individual parts of the body in a whole, integrated working system. With his broad training and experiences, David is able to tailor specific treatments strategies to individual needs. David has also pursued training in CranioSacral Therapy (CST) and visceral manipulation as part of his continuing education.
